Welcome to my creative corner of the world! I am Joanna Maria Lesna, an architect, designer, and visionary who thrives at the intersection of innovation, sustainability, and artistry. My journey spans continents, cultures, and disciplines, weaving together a story of curiosity and passion for creating spaces that inspire and connect.
My Path
I began my architectural journey at the Poznan University of Technology, where I honed my skills in Architecture and Urban Planning. Over the years, I’ve immersed myself in diverse environments, from the vibrant streets of Milan and Copenhagen to the tranquil landscapes of Japan. These experiences have shaped my approach to design, encouraging me to blend local traditions with cutting-edge solutions.
Highlights of my career include:
Designing lunar and Martian habitats
Working for world-renowned firms like BIG - Bjarke Ingels Group and Kengo Kuma & Associates.
Pioneering projects that prioritize environmental harmony, such as the Komorebi Pavilion and innovative residential designs.
My Philosophy
Architecture, for me, is more than creating structures; it’s about storytelling. Every design begins with understanding its environment and the people who will inhabit it. I am deeply committed to sustainability, not as a trend but as an ethos—crafting spaces that coexist seamlessly with nature while embracing technology and modern needs.
What Inspires Me
Nature is my greatest muse—its resilience, complexity, and beauty continually inform my work. I draw inspiration from art, music, and craftsmanship, always exploring ways to integrate these elements into my designs. I also have a deep appreciation for cultural narratives, seeking to honor and celebrate the uniqueness of every place I work.
Beyond Architecture
When I’m not designing, you might find me experimenting with pottery, immersing myself in Scandinavian winters, or dreaming up new ways to blend traditional knowledge with contemporary practices. My journey has recently led me to Stockholm, where I’m building a home and life with my partner while continuing to explore opportunities to make a meaningful impact in the field of architecture.
